Cadets at Holyoke's St. Patrick's Day festivities

Cadets and adult members of the Westover Composite Squadron played a vital role in the success of Holyoke’s legendary Saint Patrick’s Day "Homecoming Weekend," providing essential ground support for both the 10k road race and the annual parade March 21-22, 2026.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday with the 49th Annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Road Race. Squadron personnel were out in force early to assist race organizers at both the starting and finish lines.

Members helped manage the flow of the thousands of runners and walkers who gathered on Maple Street for the 1 p.m. start. Their presence ensured a safe and orderly environment as the massive crowd transitioned from the high-energy kickoff to the celebratory finish at Dwight and Maple.

On Sunday, the focus shifted to the 73rd Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade. As one of the largest parades in the country, the event draws hundreds of thousands of spectators to the city.

The Westover Composite Squadron took a prominent role on the 2.6-mile route, serving as banner carriers for various event sponsors. Marching from the Kmart Plaza on Northampton Street through the downtown finish on High Street, the cadets and officers were a visible reminder of the Civil Air Patrol’s commitment to community service.

Their annual participation in Holyoke’s Saint Patrick’s festivities remains a highlight of their community outreach calendar.
