Putting the “Service” in Community Service

On May 3, members of the Massachusetts Wing’s Westover Composite Squadron joined forces with local volunteers for West Springfield’s annual town-wide cleanup day.
Assigned to the Westfield River Canoe Launch and nearby trails, the squadron worked diligently to help beautify public spaces. Volunteers cleared litter—including tires, car parts, and construction debris—along with everyday waste like drink cans, paper containers, and food wrappers, making a visible impact on the area’s appearance.
Their efforts reflect Civil Air Patrol’s dedication to community service and its mission to foster civic responsibility through cadet development. The day showcased impressive teamwork and pride in serving the local community.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the Westover Squadron members who gave their time and energy—and to the Town of West Springfield for organizing this successful event.
